Above is a map that is the location the bird blind will be located.
Our Mission: We would like to create a bird blind for the locals and the people around and near the bird bind. The bird blind can be a very relaxing
Take a look at what we said to Middleton Parks and Req Dept
We are students from the 21st century eschool, which is part of MCPASD. We formed a small group of 11 students from within our school. We are in 4th to 7th grade. Our mission is to help the community and make Middleton an even better place to live than it already is. We named our group eImpact because we want to have a positive impact on our community. We also have other ongoing projects besides this one.
In the past few years Middleton has worked to become designated as a Bird City, USA. In 2014, the City of Middleton signed a 127 page document making sure that all future decisions made benefit birds and their habitats. This means that Middleton consists of many avid bird watchers. These people track the birds’ breeding levels, migration routes, and how many of each species are in the surrounding area. To help Middleton continue to be a ideal bird watching community, we hope to provide a safe place for bird watchers to observe birds in their natural, protected habitat. We want to build a bird blind across from Spectrum Brands and next to Confluence Pond. The bird blind will be helpful for the environment and the community. With this bird blind, birders will be able to safely watch birds without endangering themselves, others, the environment, or animals. For example, the birders won’t have to walk into the bushes or marshland trampling the plants and disturbing the birds. From the blind they will also be able to keep track of the number of birds without disturbing them. The blind will also provide the opportunity for pleasure. All people, birders or not, will be able to see several species of birds including: American Coots, Wood Ducks, Blue Herons, Mallards, Kingfishers, Cranes, Teals, Vireos, Warblers, Sparrows, Canada Geese, and Red-winged Blackbirds.
However, this site is not ready for construction. Currently, Willow saplings and Phragmite, two invasive marsh plants, compete with the cattails for the land along the waterways. The cattails are fighting a losing battle, however, they are important to the marsh habitat. Some birds, such as waterfowl, make their nests in the shelter the cattails provide, while other smaller birds, such as those of the songbird family, use the cattails as a nesting material. Other animals, such as muskrats, use the cattails as their homes and feeding grounds. The birds and other animal species need these cattails to continuethriving in this area.
We are asking for your help to remove the willow in the area our bird blind will go. After the willow has been removed, we look forward to constructing the bird blind.
We want to raise all the funds ourselves for paying for the materials to build the bird blind. We are fundraising by Raise Craze. This online site accepts donations. When you donate to that site we will then do random acts of kindness, such as free babysitting, helping an elderly neighbors with yard work, or even writing thank you cards to teachers or service members. We love that we’re raising money by doing nice things in our community!
Another important aspect of being a Bird City USA is continuing community education. Our group will help with the education of the general public by creating bird ID pamphlets so birders can learn the types of birds that they are viewing. Also, we hope to make an app to serve the same purpose.
Overall Middleton is already a great bird city and this bird blind will make it even better. It will teach the community more about the birds, give community members an opportunity to appreciate wildlife, and shows we care about our environment by improving the habitat for the birds. Thank you for taking some time during your meeting to listen to us. We hope you consider our request.
